Navy crewneck t-shirt with horizontal white stripes, bright orange flat front chino shorts, navy Argyle socks, brown leather apron toe loafers, cheap gold '70s-style digital watch
One of the great things about summer is the free outdoor concerts. Tonight, I discovered an artist I had seen perform a couple times before happened to be playing at Lafayette Park, which is the oldest park in the city of St. Louis (founded in 1836). It is located in the Lafayette Square neighborhood, one of my favorite neighborhoods due to the restored French-style row houses that date back as far as the 1850s.
Clothing-wise, I have been on a bit of a shopping binge! Two of my recent acquisitions are these bright orange chino shorts, and an exquisite Hart Schaffner Marx navy crewneck pocket t-shirt with horizontal white stripes. This is a must have summer item and stripes in general is all over the fashion blogs, such as Who What Wear.
I recently have had a bit of an obsession with the New York-based fashion designer Thom Browne. One of his signature motifs is almost knee-high socks paired with shorts. This also happens to be a great way to avoid mosquito bites (I was bitten probably 10 times on my lower legs and ankles last Friday at a primarily outdoors evening gathering while wearing customary ankle socks, never again!)
I’m not a fan of the dark socks on my pale legs to tell you the truth, but I was attempting to match the shirt. Maybe that will grow on me. The high-sock looked striking on me earlier in the week when I wore light khaki argyle socks, which blended more into my legs’ skin tone.
As Pluto settles back into Aquarius for the next 21 years, after a series of retrogrades back to Capricorn, it seems to me an apropos time to bring this look back. The last time Pluto was in Aquarius was during the late 18th century- think the American Revolution, George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and Lafayette Square name-sake Marquis de Lafayette. At that time, knee-length breeches were standard dress for men, and with stockings pulled all the way up to the knee in order to cover the entire leg.
Now I’m not suggesting to bring back breeches- it is safe to say that ship has forever sailed, as it probably should be. But the high-sock look is a fresh way to bring this aesthetic back.
What do you think? Are high-socks with shorts the wave of the future? Yay or nay?
